Is it Spring Break yet?

Hey friends!

It has been a crazy semester! Between assessments, report cards, conferences, my family, and my 2 Masters classes, my blog has really taken a backseat!

But today I'm back!
Here's what we have been up to lately...

Reading:
Our current reading unit is about exposing the students to different genres. So far this year we have read a lot of fiction and non-fiction books. This unit wants students to start noticing feelings, senses, character change, and perspectives in fiction books.
You can check out this post from last year for a bit more detail! :)
The unit also wants students to be exposed to poetry and fairy tales.

So this week, we started fractured fairy tales! This is always one of my favorite parts of this reading unit. We use these books to compare and contrast characters, settings, problem/solution, and beginning-middle-end.

Here are some links for some of my favorite books!
The Three Little Pigs

This is a super cute freebie I found on TpT:
This activity goes along with the books The Three Little Pigs and The True Story of The Three Little Pigs. Students compare the perspectives of the main characters and then choose who they would believe! They then write what they think they pig or wolf would say.

Some of you are probably already on spring break...but we still have two more weeks! Our spring break lines up with Easter. As we are approaching spring break...and the end of the year...we need a little help with behavior. For that, I have decided to start a book giveaway! The students will have opportunities to earn tickets for behavior and work effort over the next few weeks. When they get a ticket, the put their name on it and put it in the basket for which book they want to try to win. We will have our first giveaway drawing on April 7th. They are super excited!

Have a great week!
