Pencil Grip Giveaway!

Hi friends!

I'm really excited about my post today...
it's all about pencil grips!

I don't know about your students, but I constantly have firsties that have the craziest pencil grip! Some of them are holding too loose, some too tight, some too high, some too low, some are constantly changing their grip, and some still don't have an established hand dominance! My district is pretty good about OT referrals, but occasionally kids just need a little extra practice instead of a full OT evaluation.

That's where these pencil grips come into play! I have been checking school supply stores and amazon for different types of grips and comparing styles & prices. Then I found these awesome grips from The Pencil Grip, Inc.
These are the 3 different styles that I was trying out and their descriptions:
(1) The Classic Grip-"increases comfort, teaches proper hand positioning, and improves control...also provides relief of hand fatigue and pain."
(2) The Pinch Grip-"As a transitional grip, The Pinch Grip bridges the gap between more structured grips and grips that provide more freedom...improving handwriting, giving more control, and reducing hand fatigue...encourages the fingers and hand to rest in the proper position for gripping."
(3) The Crossover Grip-"uses a revolutionary applied technology that works with the body's natural physiology to gently place fingers in the proper position for gripping. It uses the same great design as The Pencil Grip [classic] but has added wings to prevent fingers from crossing over each other."

Here are some recommendations from The Pencil Grip Inc.
And here are some correct and incorrect handwriting positions!
I have a little guy this year that really struggles with his writing. His grip is inconsistent and typically too loose. His handwriting is usually very difficult to read.

This is his normal grip.
He doesn't have crossover problems so I decided to start with the pinch grip for him. He has a pretty loose grip so I thought it would help to tighten it up!
So far so good! You can definitely see the difference in his pencil grip.
He has been using it for a few days. At first, it seemed weird for him...which is to be expected. He has been writing for years so trying to break the habit can be difficult. With consistent reminders, he is adjusting to the new grip pretty well!

I'm so excited that I have these grips in my room! Like I said, I have been pricing them out and trying to find nice ones...durable ones...to have a few of in the room. I'm so glad that I found these!

Are you interested in trying them out?
Well, you're in luck!
