It's been a busy week in first grade! We started our apple study this week! :)
It's a 2 week long unit. This week we read a lot of fiction & nonfiction books and created a KWL with the nonfiction books! We also made a few apple crafts...
{Bubbly Blonde}
...and taste tested apple cider! It was a big hit!
We are continuing our apple study next week. We have been incorporating our apples into math this week and will continue to next week as well! Check out our apple math & literacy centers {here}!
Next up...my 5 for Friday with Doodle Bugs!!!
This is my first year using math journals and I'm really excited about them. I have started making month by month journal prompts...I'm creating them as we go and can't wait to have a full set at the end of the year!
We have been practicing our reader's workshop centers and this week I finally introduced the iPads! We used them in our listening station this week. The kids were SO excited!!
I stopped by my favorite store...Target...and found some goodies in the dollar spot! The first picstitch shows some cute little counters I found. There are leaves & pumpkins. I'm storing them in the adorable cat tin that is also from the dollar spot! These little things will be great for counting, sorting, ten frames, patterns, etc! The second picstitch shows a Halloween bingo game I picked up and some cute erasers! I love the franenstein erasers! :) Again, these could be used for counters, sorting, ten frames, patterns, bingo covers, etc!
I love this dog...and he's going to be losing some attention soon when baby gets here. So we made sure to spoil him on his birthday! He loved this waffle dog treat!
We had 2 baby showers this week (1 with my work and 1 with hub's work). Our little guy is so lucky! And check out those cookies (bottles, onesies, bassinets, star wars!). We had a bit of a scare this week...at my 37 week appointment the doctor was really concerned about my swelling (I've been concerned...& in pain...too) and brought up the possibility of preeclampsia and having to induce ASAP. I got my results back today and everything came back normal! So I'm just one of the lucky ones that gets to enjoy horrible swelling during pregnancy...but I'm glad we don't have to bring the little guy out early! He still has 3 more weeks to finish growing :)

Have a great weekend! :)
We are currently working on a mini Johnny Appleseed unit and are using apples galore. I love the Fall when you can start bringing in fun activities like apples. Thanks for sharing.

So glad to see more teachers incorporating ipads and apps into their lessons! As a student it's all they seem to be teaching us, that it is the way forward yet when you get into a school the teachers are generally too afraid to go near the things!!
ReplyDeleteBaby Showers look absolutely fantastic! Definitely more of a US thing. Looks like there were so many gifts!!
A lovely Five for Friday read, thank you for posting it!
Best wishes,

I loved reading your blog and glad to hear that everything is okay with the pregnancy and your little guy gets to stay where he is for a bit longer. My little guy (he is 18 now) was 5 weeks early and it can be a worrying time.
