Monday Made It-Jungle!

Hey bloggers!

As I've mentioned a few times, my school has decided on a safari/jungle theme this year! I recently went in to start working on the hallway bulletin board display for first grade. They pretty much destroy the classrooms over the summer while they clean them, so I didn't do much work in there...but I'm hoping my hallway display will be safe until August! *fingers crossed*

The two first grade boards are right next to each other in the hallway so we decided to do a joint display this year. I used butcher paper to make a giant tree in between the boards that has branches that stretch across them! I found some adorable monkeys at our local school supply store as accent pieces. I especially love the monkeys that peak out from behind the boards!

I went to my school supply store on a mission...I was ONLY looking for jungle themed items (I tend to buy more than I actually need when I'm there!). Here's what I left with:
I {love} the borders!! The rainbow zebra border is on my hallway bulletin board. I'm thinking about using the rainbow leopard border around the window on the inside of my classroom...but we will see! The larger monkeys are used as accent pieces on the hallway tree! The smaller monkeys will have the students' names on them. These will hang on & around the tree on the bulletin boards! I'm thinking it will say something like "First Grade Jungle of Learners."

I bought the banana cards and don't really have a plan for them yet. I might put the students' names on them and have a title like "A Great Bunch of....(writers, mathematicians, first graders, etc)". The round zebra cards will have their names on them and be inside of their mailboxes (so they know which one to put their papers & things in). I'm loving this theme.

Here is my bulletin board when I first got started. I love it!
And here is a picture of the two bulletin boards together after I finished with the large tree!
Like I said, there will be a title above the tree, I just decided that after making the tree, I was done for the day! I'll head back and do that some other time! The smaller monkey cards that were pictured above will be on & around the branches to start the year.

Here is a zoomed in picture of the tree and board. Check out those adorable monkeys! :)
The tree itself was actually pretty simple to make. I had an idea in my head and knew that I wanted the tree to grow up the middle of the boards with branches sprawling onto the boards. That's all I really knew. I just starting scrunching and bunching the paper. I stapled it in places that I wanted to stay bunched (to give it some depth).I just kept adding on branches until the boards were pretty much covered! I think it looks pretty awesome!

Do you have any safari/jungle themed ideas that you have used in the past and loved?
Let me know! :)
