Back to School & Linky!

Well, the school year is officially under way! We had two days of school last week...let's just say I went home day one with a headache and day two with a sore throat. Haha. My back was a little sore from standing all day and bending over to hear what the kids are saying. My body isn't back into school shape yet!

I started with a class list of 26 kids but was already down to 25 before the first day. I only had 25 desks in my room so another school had to send one over! But on Meet the Teacher day I was told that one of my little ones had already moved! So 25 it is! They are a very excited 25!...and a very talkative 25 :) After a few weeks of expectations and practice, practice, practice, I know they'll be a great group! The first few weeks we always give the 1st graders (& kindergarteners) an extra recess. It helps to give them some extra free time while trying to get into the school schedule again! I think it will be a great year and I'm excited to get to know the kids better!!

I'm joining in with Blog Hoppin' yet again for a linky! (You know I love linkies!) This one is for back to school books (& a giveaway is included...even better!). The books below are linked to The Clever School Teacher! Check it out :)
Here are some of my favorite back to school books:

(1) The Night Before First Grade
I have a lot of students each year that are new to our I like books that cover being new to a school or about making new friends!

(2) Chrysanthemum
I really like Kevin Henkes' books! We just read Chrysanthemum on Friday. I preprinted each students' name in bubble font for them to count the letters and color. They will hang in our classroom above our art projects so that the kids (& parents) can easily find their art!

(3) A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue
This is a book I reference multiple times throughout the school year. We will create a tattling vs. telling chart in an attempt to cut back on the tattling! :)

We read many books in the first few days of school...most centering around making new friends, behavior, and how we feel on the first day of school. I create a chart and let each student take a turn telling us how they felt on the first day as I write it on our chart. We make a lot of class created anchor charts throughout the year so I get them started on it day one!
