For the Love of Reading & Valentine's Party!

This week was a busy one for my first graders! We had our For the Love of Reading Celebration & Valentine's Party on the same day!! My school does a celebration each Tuesday of the month for the love of reading and each grade gets a Tuesday (K-3). Ours just happened to fall on Valentine's Day. We had the option of moving it, but decided to just make it a day of partying! Our reading celebration consists of parents being invited to join their students for recess & lunch. After lunch, the kids got their book boxes and headed out to the learning center to read with their guests!

After that, we started our Valentine's Party so the kids & guests headed into the room. They started opening their Valentines and we had an ice cream social! Fortunately, I have really great class parents that were very helpful!! I had the kids fill out an ice cream order form and called groups of kids at a time to the table. The kids gave their order form to a parent, the parent put the toppings on the ice cream, and sent the kids back to their desk! It was a bit hectic, but went well with all of the help! The kids had a lot of fun!

Here are some pics of their Valentine boxes! The kids made them at home with their parents...they were very creative! This one is army themed and has little army men all over it!

A few cute boxes...decorated in hearts and ribbons!

Some more creative boxes! Some were decorated in wrapping paper, and we even had a robot Valentine box!

One of my boys was very excited about the fish on his Valentine box...he wanted everyone to have a staring contest with it :)

Here's a picture of the kids passing out their Valentines!

Here are a few pictures of our ice cream social! The kids were reading their Valentines and enjoying some ice cream!! They had vanilla ice cream and had the option of strawberry, chocolate, & caramel sauce, cherries, sprinkles, and whipped cream. Yum!
