I ended up developing resources to go with both stories, and my students loved them. I also have made a word tree to use this year for math vocabulary words. Students just love the puppy theme!

My units are here if you are interested in taking a peak: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Read-and-Write-with-a-Puppy-Bundled-Common-Core-literature-based-resources-740551

Have fun learning with Rocket this school year!
BeccaAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17380600600536687546noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8018713624452645731.post-15740992353426470892013-07-12T23:36:13.454-05:002013-07-12T23:36:13.454-05:00Awesome, thanks!! :)Awesome, thanks!! :)Cait Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04470725332512352369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8018713624452645731.post-53377917142372696752013-07-12T23:32:03.582-05:002013-07-12T23:32:03.582-05:00Love this! (Sorry I don't know how to do all the links) It helped me make a breakthrough with so many of my students. I had them foster little stuffed puppies from Oriental Trading and they read sight words together and much more. I was going to keep the puppies and use them again but my little darlings loved them so much I had to let them adopt them "forever"! Have fun with Rocket. I use it as a confidence builder to encourage all my students and help them realize that they will be successful! I did a post on this book with a freebie if you want to check it out! http://dailylearningtothecore.blogspot.com/2013/04/sunday-linkies-mentor-text-lets-get.html
I still need to buy the other two by this author because you are so right, Rocket is just too cute!
Aylin
Learning to the Core Aylin Claahsenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04059907024549966770noreply@blogger.com
